Terms of Use

Last updated 2 July 2026.

By using RiverLaunch.app you agree to these terms. Please read them — especially the safety and liability sections below.

Not safety advice — the decision is always yours, on the day. RiverLaunch provides community-sourced and reference information to help you plan. It is not a substitute for your own judgement, training, and local checks. We never tell you a river is safe, approved, or passable. Paddling is a risk sport; conditions change quickly and information may be out of date or wrong. You are responsible for your own safety and decisions.

About these terms

These terms are between you and RiverLaunch.app ("RiverLaunch", "we", "us") and apply to the RiverLaunch app and this website. By creating an account or using RiverLaunch, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. Please also read our Privacy Statement.

Who can use RiverLaunch

You must be at least 13 years old to use RiverLaunch. If you are under 18, make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use it. Paddling decisions — especially for young or less experienced paddlers — remain the responsibility of the individual and anyone supervising them.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account, and for providing accurate details when you sign up. You can close your account at any time from the app or by contacting us. We may suspend or close accounts that misuse the service.

Your contributions

When you add content — reports, hazards, access notes, photos, and so on:

  • You confirm you have the right to share it and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • You grant RiverLaunch a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, display, and share it within the app as part of the community dataset. You keep ownership of your content.
  • You can remove your own contributions, though approved entries may remain in the shared dataset, separated from your identity where practical.
  • You must not post unlawful, offensive, misleading, or infringing content, or anything that encourages trespass or unsafe behaviour.
  • Contributions are moderated. We may edit, hide, or remove content, and suspend accounts that misuse the service.

Acceptable use

Please use RiverLaunch responsibly. Do not:

  • break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • harass, abuse, or endanger other people;
  • attempt to break, probe, or overload the service's security;
  • scrape or harvest data at scale, or resell the data; or
  • misrepresent access rights or encourage trespass.

Reference data

Rivers and some map data are curated reference data and may be derived from third-party open data (for example Ordnance Survey Open Rivers and OpenStreetMap), used under their respective licences. You cannot edit reference data directly — contact us to suggest corrections or additions.

Third-party services and links

RiverLaunch runs on third-party services (such as Google Firebase) and may link to other websites or show third-party map data. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of third-party services, and their use is governed by their own terms.

Preview (beta) service

RiverLaunch is currently offered as a preview. Features may change, be added, or be removed, and the service may be unavailable at times. Content in preview environments may be prototype content and could be reset. Do not rely on RiverLaunch as your only source of information for a trip.

Intellectual property

RiverLaunch, its branding, and its software are owned by us. The content you contribute remains yours, subject to the licence above.

Disclaimers and liability

RiverLaunch is provided "as is", without warranties of accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from your use of RiverLaunch or reliance on its information, including any decision to paddle. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or misuse the service. You can stop using RiverLaunch and close your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should continue — such as contribution licensing, disclaimers, and liability — still apply after your account closes.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product develops. We will highlight significant changes, and continued use of RiverLaunch means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also have the benefit of mandatory rules of the country where you live.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. These terms, together with our Privacy Statement, are the whole agreement between you and RiverLaunch for use of the service.
